When I log into Outlook, it shows an outlook.com email address that I don't use. My license for 365 was purchased using my gmail account. I believe this is causing me other issues, like sending meeting notices from an invalid outlook address. How do I get rid of the outlook.com address that I've never used.

Hi, @Donald Gaertner

The Gmail address used to purchase Microsoft 365 does not necessarily have to be the same address Outlook.com uses for email and calendar.

Before removing the Outlook.com address, please check this first:

  1. Go to https://account.live.com/names/manage and sign in using the Gmail address associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription.
  2. Do you see both your Gmail address and the unwanted @outlook.com address listed there?
  3. Which one is marked as the primary alias?

Microsoft requires an Outlook/Hotmail/Live/MSN address for Outlook.com email and calendar functionality, so the @outlook.com address may have been created when Outlook.com was first set up. Removing a Microsoft-domain alias can also permanently delete that address.

If your main concern is that meeting invitations are being sent from the @outlook.com address, please let me know which address is currently marked as the primary alias and I can advise on the correct way to change the sending address without affecting the Microsoft 365 subscription.

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

Thanks!

The system-generated @outlook.com address can appear when a Gmail address is set as the primary alias on the Microsoft account.

Since you already have a normal @outlook.com address, go back to the alias page and select "Make primary" beside that normal Outlook address. Leave your Gmail address on the account as an alias.

Changing the primary alias will not cancel or affect your Microsoft 365 subscription.

After changing it, sign out of Outlook.com and Teams, then sign back in and create a new Teams meeting. The normal Outlook address should then be used instead of the system-generated address.
