If setup is blocked because the wrong Microsoft account email was entered and Windows is asking for a PIN, use one of these supported paths:
- Try signing in with the Microsoft account password instead of PIN.
- On the sign-in screen, select Sign-in options.
- Choose Password if it is available.
- After signing in, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Select PIN (Windows Hello) and remove or change the PIN.
- If PIN setup is broken and password sign-in is not available, start in Safe Mode with Networking.
- On the sign-in screen, select Power.
- Hold Shift and select Restart.
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Press 5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
- At sign-in, select Sign-in options and choose Password.
- After signing in, open Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Remove the existing PIN (Windows Hello), restart normally, then set up a new PIN if needed.
- If the wrong email is being used as security info for account verification, replace the security information.
- On the verification screen, select I don't have any of these and follow the prompts to replace the security information.
- Important: changing security information can take 30 days to take effect.
- If the PC is still unusable and access cannot be recovered, reset the PC and set it up again with the correct Microsoft account.
- Warning: Remove everything deletes files on the device.
- From Windows Recovery, use Advanced options > Reset this PC > Remove Everything.
If the device is already signed in and only the PIN needs to be changed, use Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > PIN (Windows Hello), then select Change PIN or I forgot my PIN.
- Change or reset your PIN in Windows | Microsoft Support
- I factory reset my laptop and when I log in, my email address appears, but instead of asking for my PIN, it says I need to set a new PIN because there were changes, and it doesn't give me an option to do so; it says there's no application that can do it. - Microsoft Q&A
