    Hi,

If you’ve already completed Online Repair and the error remains, do Word and Excel open normally?

Is it the new version of Outlook or the old one? What exactly is the error?

    Hi @Jason Carlberg

This message usually comes from classic Outlook on Windows, often because of a faulty add-in or a damaged Office install. Here's a safe order to try it in, and your emails stay where they are:

    1. Close Outlook, press Win + R, type outlook /safe and press Enter. If Outlook opens fine this way, an add-in is the likely cause. Go to File > Options > Add-ins, select COM Add-ins > Go, and untick them one at a time to find the bad one.
    2. If it still fails in safe mode, right-click Start, select Installed apps, find Microsoft 365, select the three dots > Modify.
    3. Choose Online Repair > Repair, let it finish, then restart your PC and open Outlook again.

When does the error show up for you: as soon as Outlook opens, or while you're doing something specific like opening an email?

If this resolved your issue, please consider accepting it as the answer. If the error keeps coming back, let me know and I'll be happy to keep helping.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Start Outlook in Safe Mode
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Type Outlook.exe /safe and select OK.
      • If Outlook opens, an add-in is likely causing the problem.
    2. Disable Outlook add-ins
      • In Outlook, go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
      • Select COM Add-ins > Go.
      • Clear all check boxes, select OK, then restart Outlook.
      • If Outlook works, re-enable add-ins one at a time to find the cause.
    3. Update Office
      • Open an Office app.
      • Go to File > Account.
      • Under Product Information, select Update Options > Update Now.
    4. Run an Office repair
      • In Windows, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • Find the Office installation, select Modify, then run Quick Repair first.
      • If that does not help, run Online Repair.
      • Online Repair reinstalls Office and requires an internet connection.
    5. Check for Outlook-specific issues
      • If Outlook freezes when opening files or sending mail, external content, antivirus integration, a damaged profile, or corrupted Outlook data files can cause it.
      • If antivirus is integrated with Outlook, disabling that integration can help. This can reduce protection, so use caution.
    6. Create a new Outlook profile
      • Open Control Panel > Programs > User Accounts > Mail.
      • Select Show Profiles.
      • Remove the affected profile if appropriate, then select Add to create a new one.
    7. Run Microsoft’s Outlook troubleshooter
      • The Classic Outlook Advanced Diagnostics troubleshooter can automatically check many common causes.
      • It works for classic Outlook on Windows 10 or later.

If the error appears immediately at startup and the built-in Repair now button does nothing, the most relevant next actions are Safe Mode, disabling add-ins, and then a full Online Repair.
