In the new Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web/Outlook.com, the “block” action is managed through Junk email settings rather than always appearing in the in-message junk/report menu, especially for messages that contain unsubscribe links.
To reliably block a sender or domain, use Junk email settings instead of the in-message report option:
- Open Outlook on the web or Outlook.com.
- Select Settings (gear icon) at the top of the page.
- Select Mail > Junk email.
- Use the appropriate section:
- In Outlook on the web/Outlook.com: under Blocked senders and domains, select Add blocked sender.
- In new Outlook for Windows: use Blocked senders and Blocked domains.
- To block:
- A specific address: enter the full email address (for example,
[email protected]).
- An entire domain: enter just the domain (for example,
example.com).
- Confirm with OK if shown, then select Save.
After this, messages from those senders or domains are delivered directly to the Junk Email folder and then automatically deleted after the retention period (14 or 30 days, depending on experience) and cannot be recovered.
If selecting the block domain link in settings appears to do nothing or the pane does not load, use the combined Blocked senders and domains list (where available) and manually type the domain there, then save. This uses the same blocking mechanism and bypasses the in-message “Report” behavior that is affected by unsubscribe links.
To prevent wanted messages from going to Junk, add trusted addresses to Safe Senders as described in Add recipients of my email messages to the Safe Senders List.
