Sign in with the Microsoft-managed tenant’s onmicrosoft.com administrator account, verify that your mailbox is licensed there, and complete GoDaddy defederation if your custom-domain address still redirects to GoDaddy.
1. Resolve the GoDaddy redirect
A GoDaddy page appearing after you enter your business email address usually means that the domain is still associated with a GoDaddy-managed Microsoft 365 tenant. Moving the domain registration or purchasing a separate Microsoft subscription does not by itself remove that tenant relationship.
- Open a private or Incognito browser window so an existing GoDaddy session is not reused.
- Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Sign in using the administrator account for the Microsoft subscription purchased directly from Microsoft—preferably its original address ending in
onmicrosoft.com, not the custom-domain address.
- Open Users > Active users, select your user, and verify that:
- This is the mailbox you now use.
- A license is assigned.
- The license includes Microsoft 365 desktop applications.
Microsoft 365 Business Standard and Business Premium include desktop Outlook; Business Basic provides the web and mobile apps but not Microsoft 365 desktop applications.^1^
If entering your custom-domain address still sends you to GoDaddy, ask GoDaddy Support to confirm whether the domain remains federated with its Microsoft 365 tenant and request the supported Microsoft 365 defederation/move-away process. Microsoft directs GoDaddy-managed administrators to GoDaddy’s official migration procedure.^2^
Do not cancel the former subscription, remove the domain, or change DNS records first. Doing so can interrupt email. Defederation can also require password resets, so coordinate it with GoDaddy and ensure that the direct Microsoft tenant administrator account works before proceeding.
2. Install classic Outlook
Many Windows computers sold since 2024 include new Outlook but not classic Outlook. Microsoft provides a separate classic Outlook installer for these PCs.^3^
- Open Microsoft’s Install or reinstall classic Outlook on a Windows PC page.
- Under Select a language and download classic Outlook, select your language and choose Download.
- Run the downloaded installer and complete its prompts.
- Open Windows Start and select Outlook (classic).
- Add the Microsoft-managed mailbox after the GoDaddy redirect has been resolved.
If classic Outlook is already installed but its profile was created during the migration, create a clean profile:
- Close Outlook.
- Open Control Panel and search for Mail.
- Select Mail > Show Profiles > Add.
- Name the profile and add your Microsoft 365 account.
- Select Always use this profile, choose the new profile, and select OK.
Microsoft documents a new Outlook profile as a supported remedy for Outlook connection problems after migration to Microsoft 365.^4^
3. Classic or new Outlook?
There is no requirement to move immediately. Both support Microsoft 365 work accounts, and Microsoft allows switching back to classic Outlook.^5^
Choose classic Outlook if you rely on features such as:
- Multiple Outlook profiles
- VBA macros
- Custom forms
- Full offline capabilities
- Network-share access
- Certain advanced PST and SharePoint workflows
New Outlook has a newer interface and newer integrated features, but several classic capabilities remain unsupported or only partially available.^6^
If new Outlook is open and classic is installed, use its toggle and select Switch back to classic Outlook, or choose Use classic Outlook this time.^7^
