Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
For Mac Mail, set up the account as follows:
- Open Mail.
- If no account has been added before, the Welcome to Mail page opens. Otherwise, select Mail > Add Account.
- Select Exchange > Continue.
- Enter the name, email address, and password for the account, then select Sign In.
- Choose which Mac apps to use with the account, such as Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, and Notes.
- Select Done.
If automatic setup fails:
- Wait a few minutes or a few hours, then try again.
- Update macOS to the latest released version.
- If the account requires registration, first sign in to Outlook on the web, then sign out, and try adding the account again in Mac Mail.
If only mail access is needed, IMAP or POP can also be used:
- In Mail > Add Account, select Other Mail Account > Continue.
- Enter the name, email address, and password.
- If Unable to verify account name or password appears, select Next to enter settings manually.
- Enter:
- Email Address: email address
- User Name: email address
- Password: account password
- Account Type: IMAP or POP
- Incoming Mail Server: outlook.office365.com for Microsoft 365
- Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.office365.com for Microsoft 365
- Select Sign In.
- Choose the Mac apps to use, then select Done.
If the connection still fails in Outlook for Mac with an Exchange account, check Tools > Accounts. If the connection indicator is orange, try signing in through Outlook on the web. If needed, contact the Exchange administrator or help desk.
