Using Outlook for iOS in business environments for email and scheduling
Dear Sheri Vazquez,
From your description, it appears you are adding your work email to Outlook for iPhone, and the app is asking for the IMAP and SMTP server details. The correct values depend on who hosts your mailbox, so I would like to confirm a few things:
- What is the domain after the "@" in your email address? Please don't share the full address.
- Is the mailbox hosted by Microsoft 365, or by a third-party provider?
- What exact error message does the app show when you try to sign in?
In the meantime, you can try the following:
Step 1: Check the settings on your computer
- Open Outlook on your computer and go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
- Select your email account and choose Change.
- Select More Settings > Advanced.
- Under Server Port Numbers, note the incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) ports, and the encryption type for each.
Step 2: Let the app detect your account
- In Outlook for iOS, go to Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account.
- Enter your email address and tap Continue.
- Sign in with your work account when you are redirected to the sign-in page. Manual IMAP settings are usually not needed for a Microsoft 365 mailbox.
Step 3: Enter the settings manually (Microsoft 365 mailboxes only)
- IMAP server: outlook.office365.com, port 993, SSL/TLS
- SMTP server: smtp.office365.com, port 587, STARTTLS
- If the app does not have a separate port field, add the port after the hostname, for example outlook.office365.com:993.
Please note that these values apply only if your mailbox is hosted by Microsoft. If it is hosted elsewhere, your email provider, or the tech support who set up your account, will need to confirm the correct values. IMAP access may also be turned off by your organization's admin, in which case they would need to review it.
For reference:
Please try the steps above and let me know the result. If I have misunderstood your situation, please describe it in more detail and I'll be glad to help further.
