Using Outlook for iOS in educational settings for communication and organization
Hi Umit,
Thank you for reaching out and for the troubleshooting steps you've already completed.
Based on the behavior you've described, it appears that the badge count used for push notifications may be out of sync with the unread message count that Outlook calculates after the app performs a full synchronization. The fact that the badge displays an additional 4 unread messages, then clears after opening Outlook and syncing, suggests there may be a stale unread count associated with one of the configured accounts.
To help isolate the issue, please try the following:
- Identify the affected account
Since Outlook is configured with multiple account types, please temporarily remove all accounts and add them back one at a time, testing the badge count after each addition. This can help determine whether the issue is tied to a specific account (Microsoft 365, Gmail, Google Workspace, iCloud, or IMAP).
- Check for unread items outside the Inbox
- In Outlook, use its search and search for:
isread:noto look for any messages that may not be immediately visible. - If any messages are found, please review the folder location shown in the search results, as unread items in folders such as Archive, Junk Email, Deleted Items, Drafts, or custom folders can sometimes contribute to unexpected badge counts even when the Inbox appears to be fully read.
- Reset Outlook notification registration
- Open Outlook for iOS.
- Go to Settings > Notifications.
- Disable notifications for all accounts.
- Force-close Outlook.
- Restart your iPhone.
- Re-enable notifications and test again.
- Test a different Badge Count setting
As an additional test:
- Go to Settings > Mail > Badge Count.
- Change the setting from Focused Inbox to All Mail.
- Monitor whether the badge count behavior changes.
This will help determine whether the issue is related to the Focused Inbox count specifically. I hope your issue gets resolved soon. Any updates would be greatly appreciated.
