Organizing and accessing contact information in Outlook.com
Edit saved contact details in People, and manage list membership separately through Add to list or All contact lists.
Update or delete a contact
- In Outlook.com, select People in the left navigation panel.
- Search for and select the contact.
- Select Edit contact.
- Change the name, email address, phone number, or other information.
- Select Save.
To remove an unneeded contact, select it in People, select Delete, and confirm Delete.^1^
Add or remove a contact across lists
To see and change which lists contain a particular contact:
- In People, select the contact.
- Select Add to list on the toolbar.
- The panel shows the contact lists to which that contact already belongs.
- Select the X beside a list to remove the contact from it.
- Select the plus sign beside another list to add the contact.
- Click outside the panel when finished.^2^
This is the most convenient method when cleaning up one person’s membership in multiple lists.
Edit an entire contact list
- In People, select All contact lists in the left pane.
- Select the required list, then select Edit.
- To remove someone, select the X beside their name or email address.
- To add someone, enter their name or email address.
- Select Save.
- Repeat for each list that needs updating.^2^
To delete a list completely, select All contact lists, right-click the list or select it from the ribbon, choose Delete, and confirm. Deleting a contact list does not delete its individual contacts.^3^
Outlook.com does not provide a documented single command for editing every contact list at once. Use Add to list when changing one contact across several lists; use All contact lists → Edit when revising each list’s membership.
