Sign in to the Microsoft account used to purchase Microsoft 365, open Services & subscriptions, and check the cancelled subscription for an available refund option.
Request the refund
- Go to Services & subscriptions and sign in with the Microsoft account that purchased Microsoft 365.
- Find the affected subscription and select Manage.
- Check its status, cancellation date, and expiration date.
- If Cancel and get a refund or another refund option appears, select it and complete the prompts.
Refund eligibility is calculated automatically. Microsoft states that the most recent recurring charge is refundable when the subscription is cancelled within 30 days after payment, limited to one refund per Microsoft account per subscription product. Other eligibility and prorated-refund rules depend on the subscription and country or region.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft subscription refund policy | Microsoft Support")
If no refund option appears
Use Contact Microsoft Support:
- Enter Microsoft 365 charge after cancellation.
- Select Get Help.
- If the automated guidance does not resolve it, select Contact Support.
- Have the charge date and amount, cancellation confirmation, order number, and last four digits of the card ready. Do not post that information publicly.
A charge can still occur if cancellation was completed two days or less before the billing date. Another possibility is that the subscription was purchased under a different Microsoft account. Check the end date displayed under Services & subscriptions.[^2^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Unable to cancel your Microsoft subscription | Microsoft Support")
If the charge does not appear under the account you checked, open the Microsoft account’s Manage your payments page and select Investigate. This can identify charges associated with another subscription or purchase.^3^
If Microsoft did not sell the subscription
If it was purchased through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Best Buy, or another retailer, request the refund from that seller; Microsoft cannot directly refund a third-party purchase.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Microsoft subscription refund policy | Microsoft Support")
If you do not recognize the transaction at all and believe the card information may have been compromised, also contact the card issuer to prevent further unauthorized charges.^3^
