If Microsoft 365 Personal was renewed but Word, Excel, or other apps still cannot edit or save, the apps are usually still in reduced functionality mode or are not recognizing the renewed license.

    Try this in order:

    1. Confirm the subscription is active
      • Go to Services & subscriptions in the Microsoft account used for the purchase.
      • Verify Microsoft 365 Personal is listed as active.
      • If the renewal was bought in a retail store, complete the renewal by entering the product key at Microsoft365.com/setup or by following the link in the email receipt.
    2. Sign out of Office and sign back in with the correct Microsoft account
      • Open an Office app such as Word.
      • Go to the account area in the app and make sure it is signed in with the same Microsoft account that has the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.
      • Then close and reopen the app.
      • This often restores the renewed license and removes the edit/save restriction.
    3. Refresh the license on Mac
      • Open Word.
      • Select Word in the menu bar > About Word > More Info… > Refresh License.
      • Then completely quit all Office apps and reopen them.
    4. Check for Office updates
      • On Windows: open any Office app > File > Account (or Office Account) > Update Options > Update Now.
      • If Enable Updates appears first, select that and then run Update Now.
      • If the apps are on macOS or iOS, update the OS first, then update the Office apps.
    5. If editing is still blocked on Mac after updating
      • Quit the app completely with Command + Q.
      • Reopen it.
      • Go to the app’s account settings, sign out, then sign in again with the Microsoft account.
    6. If the apps still do not activate correctly
      • Reinstall Office from Services & subscriptions using the same Microsoft account tied to the subscription.

    What to expect:

    • When Office is not activated, it can open and print files but cannot edit, save, or create new files.
    • Once the subscription is recognized again, full editing and saving should return.

What platform are you using your Msft 365 on?

If it is Windows, in the Word, Excel apps, for example, go to Files > Accounts, click on Update license, and log in again when prompted. See if that helps.

If it is macOS, uninstall the apps. Then please use the instruction here: https://support.microsoft.com/office/how-to-remove-office-license-files-on-a-mac-b032c0f6-a431-4dad-83a9-6b727c03b193 Download and run the license removal tool to clear outdated cached license. Then reinstall the apps, and see if it works. For reinstall, if the license is via Microsoft directly, install via https://account.live.com > Subscription, find the personal plan > Manage, and find the install option. If it was via Apple App store, reinstall via the App store.
