Outlook web: last six years of inbox content missing

Last six years of inbox content disappeared. May be in conjunction with 365 Family subscription expiring, and storage capacity dropping (hence storage limit was momentarily exceeded). I have since made space available - well under storage limit now.

How to restore inbox contents?

If the mailbox is now back under quota, try recovery in this order:

    1. In Outlook on the web, check Deleted Items, Archive, Junk Email, and Other.
    2. In Inbox, make sure the filter is set to All.
    3. In Deleted Items, select Recover items deleted from this folder at the top.
    4. If the missing messages appear there, select them and choose Restore. Recovered messages go back to their original folder when possible; if the original folder no longer exists, messages are restored to Inbox.
    5. Search for a known missing message by sender or subject and check all folders, not just Inbox.
    6. Check mailbox storage in Outlook on the web at Settings > Accounts > Storage and confirm the mailbox is under quota.

Important limits from the documented behavior:

    • If email storage is exceeded, Outlook.com cannot send or receive email, and incoming mail is returned to the sender until the mailbox is back under quota.
    • Items in Deleted Items are automatically deleted after 30 days.
    • Items removed from Deleted Items are recoverable for 30 days.
    • Junk email is retained for 30 days before automatic deletion.

If the six years of mail are not in Deleted Items, Recover items deleted from this folder, Archive, or Junk Email, the available guidance does not provide a further restore path.
