Hello Craig Howarth
Microsoft has acknowledged that KB5002907 caused unexpected results on some devices running Office 2016 or Office 2019.
Some installations became unlicensed, while Office was removed in rare cases. Microsoft has paused the rollout to prevent additional devices from being affected. You can read the official confirmation here:
KB5002907: Optional update for out-of-date Microsoft 365 Apps installations
Microsoft has not provided a date for a corrected update. For now, if Office shows Unlicensed Product, reactivate the purchased product. If Office was removed, reinstall it using the Microsoft account associated with the purchase. If the issue continues afterward, contact Microsoft Support because this community forum cannot access licensing records or make account-side changes. Here is how to contact support:
Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. - Open a website link - Contact - Microsoft Support
- In the box below "We're here to help", type Microsoft 365, click "Get Help", and then click "Contact Support" below.
- In this section, you will need to sign in to your Microsoft account.
- Select "Microsoft 365 and Office" under Products & Services, select "Technical Support" as the category, and click to confirm
- You can select " Chat with a support agent in your web browser " to access the chat window.
Please note that Microsoft’s confirmation specifically mentions Office 2016 and Office 2019, not Office 2021. Could you confirm your exact Office edition and whether it appears unlicensed or has been removed completely?
Please also note that support for Office 2016 and Office 2019 ended on October 14, 2025. The applications may continue to work, but Microsoft may no longer provide regular technical support, bug fixes, or security fixes. Microsoft therefore recommends upgrading to a supported version of Office. More information is available here:
I hope this information help you,
have a nice day.
