Clear the Microsoft Store cache first, then restart the PC and resume the Solitaire installation from the Store Library; this directly addresses a download stalled at “Securing space” without repeating the uninstall.
1. Clear the Store download state
- Close Microsoft Store and the Xbox app.
- Press Windows logo key + R.
- Enter:
wsreset.exe
- Select OK. A blank Command Prompt window should appear briefly and then close automatically; Microsoft Store should reopen.
- Restart the PC.
- Open Microsoft Store → Library, locate Microsoft Solitaire Collection, and select Install. Microsoft documents Library as the location for reinstalling Store apps.^1^
The yearly Premium product is a subscription applied to Microsoft Solitaire Collection rather than a separate Premium game installation. Sign in later with the Microsoft account that purchased the subscription.
2. Check storage if it still says “Securing space”
Open File Explorer → This PC and check the available space on the Windows drive, normally C:. Low storage can interfere with Store application files.^2^
If space is low:
- Go to Start → Settings → System → Storage → Cleanup recommendations.
- Review Temporary files, Large or unused files, and Unused apps.
- Select only content you no longer need, then choose Clean up.
- Empty the Recycle Bin, restart, and retry the Store installation.
Be careful with Previous Windows installation/Windows.old: deleting it prevents returning to the previous Windows version.
If the temporary folder is filling with Store .appx files, run these Microsoft-documented troubleshooters:
- Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
- Run Windows Store Apps.
- Run Windows Update.
- Restart and test the installation again.^2^
3. Update the Store and Windows
If storage is adequate but the download remains stuck:
- Open Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates and allow the Store to update.
- Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
- Install all available updates and restart, even if Windows does not explicitly require it.
- Return to Microsoft Store → Library and retry Solitaire.^1^
Treat the Xbox sign-in problem separately
The earlier Xbox sign-in errors may affect subscription authentication after Solitaire installs, but they do not by themselves establish why the download is stalled at “Securing space.”
After installation:
- Sign in to Microsoft Store using the account that purchased Premium.
- Open Solitaire and sign in with the corresponding Microsoft/Xbox account.
- Confirm that Premium is recognized.
If Solitaire installs but still cannot authenticate the account, submit a request through the Microsoft Casual Games Support portal and include the exact error code, when it began, and that reinstalling did not resolve it. Billing, refund, or service-credit requests must instead go through Microsoft Support because community support cannot access purchase records.^3^
Avoid another uninstall until the Store cache, storage, updates, and troubleshooters have been completed; another removal is unlikely to clear a stalled Store download state.
