I need support for a paid Microsoft Solitaire Premium subscription purchased through the Microsoft Store. The product has been unusable for two days because Microsoft Solitaire cannot authenticate my Microsoft/Xbox account. Error 0x8004A97E. I have already reinstalled the application. I need assistance with my paid subscription and would like to discuss a refund or service credit.

Hi Pamela Messer-Field,

I’m sorry you have been unable to use a subscription you have already paid for, especially after reinstalling the app and still receiving error 0x8004A97E.

This error appears to be related to the Microsoft/Xbox account authentication process rather than the installation of Solitaire itself. Since you have already reinstalled the app, repeating that step is unlikely to make a difference. Please first check whether you can sign in again now, as similar sign-in issues have recently affected Microsoft Solitaire and other Casual Games.

If the error continues, please submit a request through the Microsoft Casual Games Support portal and include the error code, the date the problem began, and confirmation that reinstalling the app did not resolve it.

For a refund or service credit request, you will need to contact Microsoft Support. This is a user-to-user support forum, so contributors cannot access your purchase record or approve billing adjustments. When the Support Assistant appears, you can enter: “Microsoft Solitaire Premium has been unusable for two days because of error 0x8004A97E. I need to speak with a live support agent about my subscription and refund or service credit options.”

Please note that approval is not guaranteed and will depend on Microsoft’s review of the purchase and applicable refund terms.

I hope the authentication issue is resolved soon and that the appropriate support team can review the affected subscription for you. Thank you so much for your understanding.

For a Microsoft Solitaire Premium subscription purchased through Microsoft Store, these are the supported next steps:

    1. Verify the purchase account in Microsoft Store.
      • Open Microsoft Store.
      • Select the profile picture.
      • Confirm it is the same Microsoft account that purchased the Solitaire Premium subscription.
    2. Refresh Store licensing.
      • In Microsoft Store, open Library.
      • Select Get updates.
    3. Sign out and sign back in.
      • Sign out of Microsoft Store and Microsoft Solitaire Collection.
      • Restart the PC.
      • Sign back in with the subscription account.
    4. Run the Store apps troubleshooter.
      • Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
      • Run Windows Store Apps.
    5. Reset Microsoft Store.
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Run wsreset.
      • Wait for Microsoft Store to reopen.
    6. If Solitaire still cannot authenticate after those steps, submit feedback to Microsoft Casual Games support.

    For refund-related help:

    • If the purchase was made through Microsoft, refund eligibility for subscriptions is checked after cancellation, and not all cancellations result in a refund.
    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the same Microsoft account used for the purchase.
    • Find the subscription, select Manage, then select Cancel or Upgrade or Cancel and follow the prompts.
    • If the charge is not recognized, use the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard to investigate it.
    • For direct assistance, use Contact Microsoft Support and select Contact Support to reach the best support option.
