I am really struggling here.

Been going round in circles for weeks now. My sons account ******@gmail.com has stopped working. He uses it as his microsoft login account and specifically xbox and minecraft. The account has disappeared. He cant login. When he tried it says account does exists. When he clicks on fogot username, its send en email with a code to that email address with the username of ******@gmail.com.

When we try create a new account it says account already exists, but when we login, it says account doesnt exist

Please help

Regards

Paul

    Use this sequence:

    1. Check whether the Gmail address is still recognized as a Microsoft account by going to the Microsoft account sign-in page and entering that address.
      • If a password prompt appears, the address is a Microsoft account.
      • If the message says "We couldn't find an account with that username" or "That Microsoft account doesn't exist", first verify the spelling carefully, including the full address.
    2. If the address is correct, try password recovery instead of creating a new account:
      • Select Forgot password?
      • If another alias or phone number was ever added to the account, use that instead if the Gmail address is not recognized.
      • Follow the security code steps and set a new password if verification succeeds.
    3. If recovery still says the account does not exist, use the Sign-in Helper tool. Microsoft specifically recommends it for this exact error.
    4. If the username lookup sends a code to the Gmail address and that mailbox can still receive mail, complete that verification. That indicates the address is associated with an account.
    5. If the account has not been signed in to for more than two years, it may have been deleted and can no longer be reopened.
    6. If the password reset flow shows unfamiliar verification options and two-step verification was not turned on, use the Sign-in Helper tool.
    7. If the account recovery form is needed:
      • Complete it from a device and location commonly used for that account if possible.
      • Provide as much accurate history as possible, such as older passwords.
      • Recovery results are sent to the working email address entered at the start of the form, usually within 24 hours.
      • The form can be retried up to two times per day if verification fails.
    8. If the sign-in name was changed or one alias was blocked for sign-in, use Forgot your username? to identify which aliases belong to the account, then sign in with an alias that is allowed.

    Important limits:

    • A new Microsoft account cannot be created with an address that is already associated with an existing Microsoft account.
    • Microsoft support agents cannot send password reset links or directly change account details.
    • Personal Microsoft accounts and work or school accounts cannot be merged.
