Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Dear Kathy,
As a forum moderator, I am not able to check or change your administrator roles directly. My role here is limited to providing general guidance you can apply from your side. If you personally purchased and originally set up the Microsoft 365 Business subscription, the first account created would normally have received the Global Administrator role. However, the account you use daily may be a different user, or the subscription may have been provisioned through a reseller. To check your role:
- Open Microsoft 365 admin center in a private browser window.
- Sign in with your business account, not a personal Microsoft account.
- Go to Users > Active users, select your account, and open Manage roles.
If Global Administrator is selected, you already have full administrative access. If you can't open the admin center, or you can't change roles, another account likely holds the admin role. Two common causes:
- A different sign-up account: Search your email for messages from Microsoft from 2020. The account created at sign-up often ends in .onmicrosoft.com. Sign in with that account and assign the Global Administrator role to your everyday account.
- A provider-managed subscription: If you bought the subscription through a provider such as GoDaddy, they may control admin access, and you'd need to contact them.
If neither applies, please share what you see when you sign in to the admin center, and we can work through it together. Please hide any email addresses or personal details if you post a screenshot.
I hope this helps. Looking forward to your reply.
