I know I need more time today but don't want to wait for it to run out to ask.

    Hi Julia,

As per checking, when using Microsoft Family Safety, there isn't currently a way for a child account to proactively request additional screen time before the limit is reached. The Ask for more time option normally appears when the screen time limit has been reached or when the device becomes locked due to the limit.

As an alternative, you can contact the family organizer (parent/guardian) before your time runs out and ask them to adjust your screen time schedule or grant additional time through the Family Safety app or website.

In Microsoft Family Safety, more time is typically granted after the limit is reached. To avoid getting blocked unexpectedly, the organizer in the family group can change the limits in advance instead of waiting for the time to run out.

    Options available to the organizer:

    1. Open the Microsoft Family Safety app or go to the family settings online.
    2. Select the family member’s tile.
    3. Open Screen time for the relevant platform.
    4. Increase the allowed hours for today, or apply a schedule to other days or Every day.
    5. If the issue is with a specific app, open App and Game Limits and set that app to a longer limit or unlimited.
    6. If needed, turn limits off entirely.

    Important details:

    • Only accounts added to the Family Safety group can be managed.
    • Screen time can be set for Windows, Xbox, and mobile, but mobile screen time applies only to Android devices.
    • On Xbox, screen time continues counting while the family member is still signed in.
    • With a child account, the restrictions cannot be bypassed by the child account itself; the organizer must change or remove them.
