A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Because the unfamiliar address is not listed in your security information, use Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper from the verification-code troubleshooting page, then separately sign out and re-add your account in the OneDrive and Microsoft 365 mobile apps.^1^
1. Check both places where an email can be attached
A Microsoft account has two distinct email lists:
- Security information: destinations used for verification codes.
- Aliases: addresses that identify the same Microsoft account and may be used to sign in.
You have already checked security information, so now check the alias list:
- In a browser where the account works, open your Microsoft account.
- Select Your info → Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.
- Review every address under Account aliases. Microsoft documents that aliases share the same account, password, storage, and subscriptions.^2^
- If the unfamiliar address is listed:
- First add and verify an email address you control, if necessary.
- Make the controlled address primary.
- Only then remove the unauthorized alias.
Important: Before removing any alias, confirm it is genuinely unauthorized. Removing a Microsoft-domain alias such as an @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, or @live.com address can permanently delete that address and prevent it from being reclaimed.^3^
If the unfamiliar address is absent from both the alias list and Security basics → Update info, do not try to use it or send a code to it. On the Microsoft verification troubleshooting page, choose the Sign-in Helper option. If the verification screen offers I don’t have any of these, that option starts replacement of the security information; replacing all security methods can restrict the account for 30 days.^1^
2. Secure the account without assuming it was compromised
Recognized recent activity is encouraging, but the activity page does not display every event. It normally shows significant activity from the previous 30 days.^4^
Take further action only if you find an unknown sign-in, profile change, alias, or security method:
- Expand the event and select This wasn’t me or Secure your account.
- Change the account password.
- Remove unknown trusted devices and update the security methods you control.^5^
The displayed unfamiliar address alone does not establish that the account was compromised. Microsoft lists mistyped account names/domains among the causes of unrecognized verification details, so also confirm that the exact intended address is entered on the verification screen.^1^
3. Refresh Microsoft 365 and OneDrive on the phone
The old address may remain in the apps’ saved account state. Refresh each app independently.
OneDrive on Android or iOS
- Open OneDrive and tap the profile picture/person icon.
- Select Settings.
- Select the arrow beside the old account, then Sign out.
- Add the account again using the current working alias and password.
Signing out does not delete files from OneDrive; offline or saved files remain on the device.^6^
Microsoft 365 or Office mobile apps
- iPhone/iPad: Account → account name → Sign Out, confirm, and close every Microsoft 365/Office app.
- Android: From Recent, tap the person icon → your name → Sign Out, confirm, and close every Microsoft 365/Office app.
Reopen the app and sign in with the current alias.[^7^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/subscriptions/[Subscription ID] "Sign out of Office | Microsoft Support")
Finally, clarify whether the “current” and “previous” addresses are actually different—the question masks both as the same @abv.bg address. If they are different aliases, identify which one appears under Manage how you sign in to Microsoft and which one the phone displays.
