Can business verification be completed later, after joining Microsoft for Startups without a registered company?

I'm building a B2B software product for small businesses in Hungary and want to join Microsoft for Startups (no investor code). My business is not registered yet; I plan to register it in the coming months, as a sole proprietorship (Hungarian egyéni vállalkozó) or a limited company (Kft.).

Before applying, I'd like to understand the credit milestones in this situation:

  1. If I apply now without a registered company, can I complete business verification later on the same account, once the company is registered, and then receive the $5,000 milestone? Or does applying before registration close this option?
  2. Does a Hungarian sole proprietorship (egyéni vállalkozó) count as a "registered legal entity" for business verification, or is a limited company required?
  3. Without business verification, can a startup reach the $25,000 milestone (5+ Azure workloads for ~60 days)?
  4. How long are the credits valid, starting from when?
  5. Is there a time limit for business verification after sign-up? The FAQ mentions "$1,000 for 90 days, then an additional $4,000 for 180 days after business verification", while the Getting Started page describes $200 and milestones. Which one applies today?

I want to avoid applying too early and losing the $5,000 milestone, since each company can claim the program benefits only once. Thank you!

I think the main issue is later verification on the same account.

Getting Started lists up to $200 initially. $5,000 requires verification of a registered legal entity. Milestones can be skipped, but $25,000 without verification isn't confirmed. The FAQ's 90/180-day periods don't set a verification deadline. Credit validity and extension terms differ too. Before applying, ask Microsoft about later verification on the same account, any deadline, Hungarian sole-proprietor eligibility, $25,000 requirements, and applicable credit terms.

Based on the current Microsoft for Startups guidance for the no-code path:

    1. Applying now does not remove the later business verification step. The account is automatically evaluated for higher tiers when milestone requirements are met. For the current progression, the no-code path starts with $200 after identity verification, and $5,000 is tied to business verification. There is no separate manual application for the higher tier.
    2. The documented requirement for the $5,000 milestone is that the startup must be a registered legal entity. The available guidance does not define whether a Hungarian egyéni vállalkozó qualifies, and it does not say that a limited company is required. Only the registered-legal-entity requirement is explicitly stated.
    3. No. The documented progression shows $25,000 as the next milestone after $5,000, and $5,000 requires business verification. The $25,000 milestone then additionally requires 5+ Azure workloads in active use over a sustained period of about 60 days. The 60-day count starts once the required number of workloads each has at least $1 in spend, and every workload must stay above that threshold for the full 60 days.
    4. The returned guidance does not provide a complete, current validity period for every milestone. What is supported is:
      • On the no-code path, the initial $200 credits are available immediately after account creation.
      • Credit balance updates can take up to 24 hours to appear fully.
      • One FAQ states a startup credit offer of $1,000 for 90 days, then an additional $4,000 for 180 days after business verification.
      • Another current milestone page describes the newer progression as $200 → $5,000 → $25,000 → $50,000 → $150,000.
    5. No explicit time limit for completing business verification after sign-up is stated in the returned documentation. The current milestone documentation indicates the present no-code progression is $200 first, then $5,000 after business verification. The FAQ entry mentioning $1,000 for 90 days + $4,000 for 180 days conflicts with that newer milestone model, so the milestone page reflects the current program progression more directly.

For avoiding an early application mistake, the supported takeaway is:

    • Applying without a registered company does not by itself close the option to complete business verification later on the same account.
    • To reach $5,000, business verification must be completed once the startup is a registered legal entity.
    • The documentation provided does not confirm whether a Hungarian sole proprietorship qualifies as that legal entity type.
