How to fix Sign in cancelled on Microsoft Onedrive App?

Hi. Every time I try to log in to my account, it keeps showing "Sign In Cancelled." I've tried everything, including removing my Microsoft account from Windows Credentials (Credential Manager), uninstalling and then reinstalling the OneDrive app, and deleting folders in the OneAuth folder on the C: drive ("accounts" and "blobs"). I still can't log in, and I still get the same pop-up message, "Sign in Cancelled".

Please help me.

    Hi,

    Thanks for confirming.

Open Settings > Accounts > Other users > Add account.

Select I don’t have this person’s sign-in information, then Add a user without a Microsoft account, and create a temporary local account > Sign out of Windows and sign in to that new account.

Open OneDrive, install it there if needed and try signing in with your same personal Microsoft account.

Please let me know whether it works there. If it does, that would suggest the problem is related to settings or sign-in data in your usual Windows profile.

    Hi,

In addition to the steps provided by AI, could you confirm a few details?

Are you using a personal or work/school account, and Windows 10 or 11?

Can you sign in to OneDrive on the web with the same account?

Does “Sign-in cancelled” appear before or after entering your password?

Can you sign in to other Microsoft apps on this computer?

Also, have you tried the AI’s reset and mobile hotspot suggestions, and did either change the error?

Since reinstalling OneDrive and clearing credentials did not help, the next supported fixes are:

    1. Reset the OneDrive sync app.
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Run: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
      • Then open Start, search for OneDrive, and launch it again.
      • After a reset, OneDrive may do a full re-check and may ask which folders to sync again.
    2. Clear the cached pre-sign-in settings.
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Open: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings
      • Delete: PreSignInSettingsConfig.json
      • Start OneDrive and try signing in again.
    3. Rule out firewall, VPN, or ISP blocking.
      • If a VPN is enabled, disconnect it temporarily.
      • Try signing in while connected to a mobile hotspot.
      • If sign-in works on the hotspot, the issue is likely caused by the normal network, router, firewall, or ISP blocking OneDrive sign-in traffic.
    4. Make sure OneDrive is fully updated.
      • Install the latest OneDrive version and try again.
    5. If the app still fails, do a deeper cleanup reinstall.
      • Uninstall OneDrive.
      • Delete leftover OneDrive folders under AppData and Program Files if they still exist.
      • Reinstall the latest OneDrive version.
      • This is more thorough than a standard reinstall and has resolved similar stuck sign-in cases.
      • Warning: deleting app folders removes local app settings and cached sync state, so OneDrive will need to be set up again.
    6. If the account signs in on the web but not in the app, verify the account type.
      • If the error appears when using a personal Microsoft account against a work or school OneDrive site, sign in with the correct work or school Entra ID instead.
    7. If none of the above works, check whether the problem is account-related.
      • For personal Microsoft account sign-in problems such as account not found or recovery issues, use the Microsoft account sign-in helper.
