My One Drive is stuck in "signing out" and will not sync or do anything. I have done everything I can think of to do. I cannot do anything with One Drive. I need the ability to go from home to work without having to save everything to a flashdrive.

    Good day Misty

From what you described, OneDrive on your Windows stuck in the “signing out” state and won’t respond or sync. This behavior can happen when the local OneDrive app gets stuck or its cache is in an inconsistent state.

Please try to reset OneDrive using the Run command:

    • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog
    • Copy and paste this command, then press Enter: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

After running the reset command, please wait about a minute. OneDrive should restart automatically. If it doesn’t, try opening OneDrive again from the Start menu.

If the issue continues, it will help to narrow things down a bit further:

    1. Are you using a personal account or a work/school account?
    2. Does this happen on only this device, or do you see the same issue on other devices as well?
    3. Are you connected to a VPN or work network when this happens?

I look forward to your response so we could determine the best next steps if needed!

Try the following steps in order to get OneDrive working again.

    1. Confirm OneDrive is signed in and up to date
    • If a password was recently changed, OneDrive may need to sign in again. Make sure the correct account and password work by signing in to the Microsoft Account dashboard.
    • Make sure the latest OneDrive version is installed. If needed, reinstall from the official download page referenced in the OneDrive fixes article.
    1. Check for Windows and app updates
    • Install the latest Windows updates, as some OneDrive sign-in issues are fixed via Windows Update.
    • On Windows 10/11 devices, also open Microsoft Store → Updates and install any pending updates for OneDrive.
    1. Reset or re-link OneDrive If OneDrive is stuck and not responding, resetting or re-linking can clear the stuck “signing out” state:
    • Use the guidance in “Unlink and re-link OneDrive” to disconnect and then reconnect the account. This forces OneDrive to re-establish the sync connection.
    • On Mac, the documented approach is to clear cached credentials in Keychain, then sign in again so OneDrive re-links the account and re-syncs files.
    • On Windows 8.1-era clients, a reset command is documented (skydrive.exe /reset), but note that older sync apps are no longer supported on Windows 7/8/8.1.

Resetting or re-linking does not delete cloud files; it forces a fresh sync, which can take time depending on how much data must be re-downloaded.

    1. Check connectivity and network configuration
    • Verify a stable internet connection; autosave and sync require connectivity.
    • If sign-in still fails, the issue may be firewall, VPN, or ISP related. The OneDrive fixes article points to required URLs and ports that must be reachable.
    1. If OneDrive still will not sign in
    • The “Fix OneDrive sync problems” and “Fixes or workarounds for recent issues in OneDrive” articles provide platform-specific troubleshooting paths and guided support tools.
    • If the problem persists after reset/re-link and updates, use those guides or the built-in guided support to escalate.

Once OneDrive is signed in and syncing again, files can be saved directly to the OneDrive folder from Office apps so they are available both at home and at work without using a flash drive.
