The “Ask for permission” popup appears because the account is being treated as a child account with Microsoft Family Safety restrictions. To stop it, remove or relax those Family Safety settings on the account and refresh them on the device.
Use one of these approaches, depending on the situation.
- Check whether the account is in a Microsoft Family group
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family and sign in with the affected account.
- If a family is listed, the account is in a Family group and is being managed as a child.
- If no family is listed but restrictions still apply, the device may still have old Family Safety settings; see step 3.
- If the account is in a Family group
- If the account should no longer be supervised as a child, the organizer can:
- Remove the account from the Family group, or
- Turn off all Family Safety features for that account.
- Add or keep the account in a Microsoft Family group.
- As the organizer, open the child’s profile and disable all “Features” and “Activity reporting” for that account.
- If Xbox / Minecraft are involved, sign in to the Xbox profile for that account and set all relevant “Xbox and Windows devices Online Safety” options to Allow.
- Leave the account as a Family member (or remove it after confirming everything works).
- Sign out of Xbox apps (such as Minecraft) on the PC, then restart the device.
- If the account is not in a Family group but still gets restrictions Family Safety settings may still be cached on the device. Run the Family Safety reset task on each affected PC:
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type
cmdand select OK. - In the Command Prompt window, run:
schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask" - Restart the computer.
This refreshes and clears old Family Safety policies so the “Ask for permission” dialog no longer appears for that account.
If the account’s birthdate is set as underage, Family Safety may still treat it as a child even after these steps; in that case, update the birthdate per Microsoft account guidance and then repeat the refresh.
