Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Did the subscription already show as expired in your Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page?

Also, when did you redeem the two codes?

Did you redeem them on the same Microsoft account or different accounts?

Normally, redeeming a new code should extend the subscription time, not make it inactive early.

Please also check if recurring billing was turned off or if you signed in with the wrong Microsoft account.

The subscription expired because the Microsoft 365 time from each purchase/redeem code is limited, and when that paid time ended, the subscription became inactive.

Key points based on the behavior described:

    1. Each 1‑year Microsoft 365 code adds a fixed duration
      • When a 1‑year subscription is purchased or a 1‑year code is redeemed, it adds 12 months of service.
      • If renewed early, unused time is not lost; the expiration date is extended by the extra year, not reset.
    2. Why it shows as expired before “expected”
      • If the subscription was allowed to expire before redeeming the next code, there can be a gap where the service is inactive and shows “Subscription expired.”
      • The “Subscription expired” or “Renew your subscription” bar can continue to appear even after renewal until all Office apps are closed and reopened, and the correct account is signed in.
    3. What to check and do now
      1. Verify the subscription status and expiry date:
        • Go to the Microsoft account Services/Subscriptions page and confirm:
          • The subscription is listed as Active.
          • The expiration date matches the total time expected from all redeemed codes.
      2. If the subscription is active but apps still show expired:
        • Close all Office apps.
        • Reopen an app (like Word), sign in with the same Microsoft account used on the Subscriptions page, and let it refresh the license.
      3. If a physical or emailed product key was used and time is missing:
        • Ensure every product key has actually been redeemed. If a code was purchased but never entered, that time will not be added.

If, after checking the online subscription page, the expiration date still does not match what was paid for, the next step is to contact Microsoft Support or the retailer where the codes were purchased so they can review the specific account and codes.
