progress update on creating a way to lock calendar scroll

I know that there's already been discussion of creating a way to make calendars lock the display to a specific start time, rather than needing to scroll down from midnight each time we open the app, and sometimes during the day when, for some unknown reason, it jumps back to midnight rather than show the current hour. It's irksome and I'd appreciate an update on the development process - whether it's started, if it's on the to-be-reviewed list, it's not going to happen, etc. I'm specifically using the Outlook 365 package for Mac, in case that makes a difference in the timeline. Access is through work, but I don't know if they purchased the business package or not since it's a university. The url starts with outlook.cloud.microsoft. I prefer the web interface, but do have the downloaded application too.

Hi VTNardine,

If I understand correctly, you're looking for a way to have the calendar open at a preferred time, and would like to know whether Microsoft has provided any update on this feature request.

Unfortunately, members in this community forum has no access to Microsoft's internal roadmap or development plans, so we can't tell whether this request is being worked on, reviewed, or planned for a future release.

Based on my research, there does not appear to be a setting that allows the calendar display to be locked to a specific opening hour or scroll position. If this functionality is important to your workflow, consider submitting feedback or voting for an existing suggestion through the Microsoft Feedback Portal. This forum is mainly focused on questions and troubleshooting, while feature suggestions are more likely to reach the product team through Microsoft's feedback channels.

You may also wish to monitor the Feedback Portal for updates. In some cases, Microsoft will provide status updates on feedback items, such as whether a suggestion is being reviewed or worked on, which can be the best source for any future information regarding a feature request.

If you decide to submit feedback, feel free to post back with the feedback link. I'd be happy to vote for it as well to help increase its visibility.

I hope this information is helpful.

There is currently no setting in Outlook on the web or Outlook for Mac that locks the calendar at a chosen start time, and Microsoft has not publicly announced a development or release timeline for that feature.^1^

    Current status by client

    • Outlook on the web: Its documented calendar appearance settings include working hours, work-week days, and 15- or 30-minute time increments, but not a fixed initial scroll position. Working hours only shade nonworking hours; they do not make the calendar open at the start of the working day.^2^
    • Outlook for Mac: Microsoft’s current feature list does not identify calendar start-time locking as available or upcoming.^3^
    • Public roadmap: No specific item for locking the calendar’s initial scroll position has been identified on the Microsoft 365 roadmap. Absence from the public roadmap does not establish whether Microsoft is reviewing or developing it internally.^4^

The university’s particular Microsoft 365 plan is therefore unlikely to expose an edition-specific switch for this behavior. The documented settings for the web client do not include one.

    Submit or reinforce the request

    In new Outlook for Mac:

    1. Open Outlook.
    2. Select Help → Feedback.
    3. Choose the option to make a suggestion.
    4. Request both:
      • A configurable calendar opening time, such as 8:00 AM.
      • Preservation of the current scroll position when changing dates or returning to Calendar.
    5. Include a screenshot and note that the issue also occurs in Outlook on the web.

Microsoft states that suggestions submitted this way go directly to the product team; the suggestion option is currently available in new Outlook for macOS.^5^

Because this is a work or school account, report the unexpected jumps back to midnight separately as a possible defect:

    • Outlook for Mac: Help → Feedback → Report a Problem.
    • If formal investigation is needed, contact the university help desk; it can open a Microsoft support request on the organization’s behalf.^6^

That distinction matters: the absence of a configurable start time is a feature limitation, while resetting to midnight during active use can be reported as unintended behavior. Microsoft’s published Outlook for Mac known-issues list does not currently include this scroll-reset symptom.^7^
