Check the mailbox in Outlook on the web first; if the missing messages appear there, reset the account in new Outlook, but if they are absent there too, search the whole mailbox and use Recoverable Items.

    1. Determine whether this is only a new Outlook display problem

    1. Open Outlook on the web in a browser and sign in with the same work account.
    2. Open Inbox and check both Focused and Other. Focused Inbox only classifies Inbox messages between those two tabs; it does not create separate folders.^1^
    3. Select the Inbox filter and choose All.
    4. Search for a known missing message using its sender, subject, or a distinctive word. Set the search scope to All Folders, not only Inbox. Also inspect Archive and any custom folders.^2^

If the messages appear in the browser, they still exist in the mailbox and the issue is limited to new Outlook:

    1. In new Outlook, select View → View Settings → Mail → Message List.
    2. Select the affected account.
    3. Clear Sort messages into Focused and Other, then select Save. This displays one combined Inbox.^1^
    4. If the date gap remains in new Outlook but not on the web, remove that account from new Outlook and sign in again. This is the next client-reset step used for the same symptom where messages remain visible in the browser.^3^

    2. Search the hidden Recoverable Items area

Since you already checked the ordinary Deleted Items and Junk Email folders, do not stop there:

    1. Select Deleted Items.
    2. At the top of the message list, select Recover beside Recover items deleted from this folder.
    3. Search or scroll for the missing messages.
    4. Select the messages and choose Restore.^4^

Recoverable Items is separate from the visible Deleted Items folder. Recovery works only while the items remain within your organization’s retention period and have not been purged.^5^

    3. Check automation other than Sweep

You have confirmed that no Sweep action is configured, but rules and forwarding are separate settings. In Outlook on the web, check:

    • Settings → Mail → Rules: disable any unfamiliar rule that moves or deletes messages.
    • Settings → Mail → Forwarding: verify that mail is not being redirected elsewhere.^6^

If these settings changed without your knowledge, change the account password and report the issue to your Microsoft 365 administrator.

    4. Escalate if the messages are missing on the web

For a business mailbox, contact your Microsoft 365 administrator if the messages are absent from Focused, Other, whole-mailbox search, and Recoverable Items. Provide:

    • The exact missing date range.
    • Two or three known senders and approximate delivery times.
    • Whether the messages appear in Outlook on the web.
    • Whether other users are affected.

Ask the administrator to investigate delivery and mailbox retention and determine whether administrator-level recovery is still possible. Items can be recovered only if they have not been purged and their retention period has not expired.^5^

    Hi @Mark Blackwell

I understand how concerning it can be when emails suddenly disappear from your inbox.

To help narrow down the issue, could you please confirm whether the missing emails are only missing from the Focused tab or whether they are also missing from the Other tab?

In the meantime, you can try the following steps in New Outlook for Windows:

    1.Search for missing emails

Use the search bar to search for a missing email by sender, subject, or keyword. If available, set the search scope to all folders to check whether the messages were moved elsewhere.

2.Check other folders and inbox rules

Check the Archive folder and any custom folders in your mailbox. Also, go to Settings > Mail > Rules to see whether any rules might be moving or deleting messages automatically.

3.Check Outlook on the web (assuming this is Exchange/Microsoft 365 account type)

Sign in to Outlook on the web using the same account and check whether the missing emails appear there. This can help determine whether the issue is specific to New Outlook or also affects the mailbox online.

    4.Contact Your IT Administrator

If you're using a Microsoft 365 work or school account with Exchange Online and the missing emails are no longer in Deleted Items, please contact your IT administrator and ask them to check whether the messages may still be available and recoverable.

Your IT admin can refer to the following Microsoft documentation for guidance: Find content in mailboxes using eDiscovery

Please let me know if you have any updates after trying these steps.
