Sign in with the Microsoft account used for the upgrade, identify which transaction or subscription is duplicated, and cancel only the unwanted subscription to have Microsoft check and display its refund eligibility.
Request the refund
- Open your Microsoft account Order history and compare the two charges by date, amount, and product.
- If only one charge appears, open Payment options → Investigate; the other charge may belong to another Microsoft account using the same card. Repeat the check for any other Outlook, Hotmail, Live, or Gmail-based Microsoft accounts you use. ^1^
- Go to the Microsoft 365 subscription page:
https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365
- Find the extra subscription and select Manage → Cancel. The option may instead be named Upgrade or Cancel.
- Complete the cancellation screens. Microsoft automatically determines eligibility and shows whether a refund will be issued. Not every cancellation produces a refund, so review the result before confirming. Do not cancel the subscription you intend to keep. Cancelling Microsoft 365 can reduce OneDrive and Outlook.com storage allowances and affect people sharing a Family subscription.
Because the charge occurred today, it may fall within Microsoft's refund window. In most cases, an initial purchase can be refunded within 30 days or before the first recurring billing date, whichever comes first. The most recent recurring charge may also qualify when the subscription is cancelled within 30 days, subject to the stated one-time limit and regional terms. If there are two charges but only one subscription
Contact Microsoft Support rather than cancelling the subscription you want to retain:
- Open the Contact Microsoft Support link provided under “Need more help?” on the refund page.
- Enter Duplicate charge for Microsoft 365 upgrade and select Get Help.
- If the automated steps do not resolve it, select Contact Support.
- Provide both transaction dates, amounts, payment method, and order or transaction IDs. Do not post those details publicly.
If Apple, Google, or another retailer billed you
Check Services & subscriptions. If Manage, Cancel, or Change payment is unavailable, the subscription may be managed by a third party. Apple, Google Play, Amazon, or the applicable retailer—not Microsoft—must process that refund.
