Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
For Outlook.com, the most relevant checks are mailbox storage, filters, rules, forwarding, Junk/Archive, and account activity.
- Check storage first. If Microsoft cloud storage is full, Outlook.com cannot send or receive email, and messages sent while storage was full are bounced back to the sender and are unrecoverable.
- Check the message list view.
- Select Filter above the message list and choose All.
- Set Filter > Sort > Date.
- Check the Other tab if Focused Inbox is enabled.
- Check other folders.
Look in:
- Junk Email
- Deleted Items
- Archive
- any custom folders
- Check rules and forwarding.
- Review Rules for anything moving messages out of Inbox.
- Check whether email forwarding is enabled and disable it if mail is being redirected.
- Check Junk Email settings. Review blocked senders and the Junk Email folder. If a message is in Junk that should not be there, mark it as not junk.
- Check account activity. If unusual sign-in activity was detected, the account may be temporarily blocked. Review recent sign-in activity and update the password if it was changed recently.
- Send a test message from another account. If it does not arrive anywhere and storage is available, use Outlook.com support from the Help menu and the Still need help? option to contact support.
