I sent a few emails out and they were received in October. I’m not receiving any emails in my inbox.

    Hi, Howard Flowers

I understand how frustrating it is to have October emails missing while your outgoing messages still reach people. Before changing more settings, I’d narrow down whether this is a display problem or a delivery problem.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Open your mailbox in a different browser and compare it with the app you normally use. If October messages appear there, focus on the original browser or app rather than changing mailbox settings. If you use Firefox, temporarily disable its add-ons, since certain add-ons can prevent the inbox from loading.

If you also check email through an older mail program, check whether it uses POP. It is recommended that you enable Leave a copy of messages on the server in that program. Without this setting, it can download messages and remove the server copies, leaving them unavailable on other devices.

Ask someone whose October email is missing whether they received a delivery failure message. Share only the error code and explanation here, with personal details removed. That message usually identifies the delivery problem and gives us a more specific next step.

For Outlook.com, the most relevant checks are mailbox storage, filters, rules, forwarding, Junk/Archive, and account activity.

    1. Check storage first. If Microsoft cloud storage is full, Outlook.com cannot send or receive email, and messages sent while storage was full are bounced back to the sender and are unrecoverable.
    2. Check the message list view.
      • Select Filter above the message list and choose All.
      • Set Filter > Sort > Date.
      • Check the Other tab if Focused Inbox is enabled.
    3. Check other folders. Look in:
      • Junk Email
      • Deleted Items
      • Archive
      • any custom folders
    4. Check rules and forwarding.
      • Review Rules for anything moving messages out of Inbox.
      • Check whether email forwarding is enabled and disable it if mail is being redirected.
    5. Check Junk Email settings. Review blocked senders and the Junk Email folder. If a message is in Junk that should not be there, mark it as not junk.
    6. Check account activity. If unusual sign-in activity was detected, the account may be temporarily blocked. Review recent sign-in activity and update the password if it was changed recently.
    7. Send a test message from another account. If it does not arrive anywhere and storage is available, use Outlook.com support from the Help menu and the Still need help? option to contact support.
