My computer says pin is not availble and keeps asking me to sign in to my account.

I read the Q&A and discovered that in my computer Microsoft Passport and Windows Hello-related services are running but it states manually. I undesrtood it had to be automatic. How to change to automatic?

The supported fix is to reset the Windows Hello PIN rather than changing Microsoft Passport or Windows Hello services to Automatic.

Try this in order:

  1. At the sign-in screen, select Sign-in options and sign in with the account password instead of the PIN.
  2. After signing in, open Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
  3. Under PIN (Windows Hello):
    • Select Change PIN if the PIN still works enough to change it, or
    • Select I forgot my PIN if the PIN is unavailable, then follow the verification steps to create a new PIN.
  4. If Windows Hello face or fingerprint is also failing, remove the existing enrollment and set it up again from Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
  5. Restart the device. If updates are pending, use Update and restart.

If the device uses Enhanced Sign-in Security and biometrics are not working, these checks are documented:

  • Open System Information > System Summary and confirm Virtualization Based Security is Running.
  • Open System Information > Software Environment > Running Tasks and check for bioiso.exe and ngciso.exe.
  • If biometric enrollment is nonfunctional, remove the enrollment in Settings > Sign-in options and re-enroll it.

For fingerprint issues specifically:

  • Clean and dry the fingerprint reader.
  • Re-register the fingerprint and capture different angles.
  • Check for updated device drivers.
  • Add more than one fingerprint.

If the PIN still cannot be reset after signing in with a password, use Microsoft Support from the PIN reset article.
