A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
A successful sign-in means the correct primary credential was accepted. If the same entry also shows Sign-in blocked (account compromised), Microsoft’s security systems detected suspicious activity and blocked the session before full access was granted.
To check whether unauthorized access may still exist and secure the account:
- Open the Recent activity page at https://account.live.com/Activity.
- Review activity from the last 30 days.
- Expand each event to check location details and how the account was accessed.
- If an item appears under Unusual activity, select This was me or This wasn’t me.
- Change the account password immediately.
- Microsoft recommends changing the password and updating security settings if there is concern that someone accessed the account.
- Update security settings.
- Go to the Security settings page at https://account.live.com/p?uaid=0565c61db31841478e349ab0140d94e6.
- Update security info and review trusted devices.
- Remove all trusted devices if needed.
- Keep two-step verification enabled.
- If sign-in attempts are unsuccessful, Microsoft recommends two-step verification because a guessed password alone is not enough to access the account.
- If the account is a work or school account, review sign-in details in My Account.
- Sign in to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/.
- Select Recent Activity from the left pane.
- Review the operating system, browser, app, and location for each sign-in.
- If an entry shows Additional verification failed, invalid code, the password succeeded but two-step verification failed. Microsoft recommends changing the password and updating security settings in that case.
- If access to the account is lost or the account is locked, use the account recovery path.
- Sign in at
https://account.microsoft.comto unlock the account. - If sign-in is not possible, use the Microsoft account sign-in helper.
