You didn't tell us what kind of account you have in mind, which forces us to make an assumption. I assume you are referring to your Microsoft account.

You can sign in to your Microsoft account as many times as you wish, however, if you sign in with an incorrect or mistyped password too many times, Windows will automatically lock you out for a period of time specified in Group Policy. We don't know what that length of time is, because it's not a standard Windows setting. Whoever setup Windows made that decision.

You could try waiting 30 minutes, and if you're still being locked out, wait another 30 minutes, and so on, until the length of time specified in Group Policy passes. Then you'll be able to sign in again.

Start with Microsoft’s sign-in helper rather than repeatedly entering the password, then follow the branch matching the exact message shown on screen.

If it says “You have tried too many times with an incorrect password”

    1. Stop making repeated sign-in attempts for now.
    2. Open the Microsoft account sign-in helper.
    3. Enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name associated with the account—not just the display name SourPickle59.
    4. Follow the diagnosis and recovery instructions it provides.

Microsoft says this error can result from repeated incorrect attempts, another person unintentionally using the address, or a browser, device, app, or network issue. The supported recovery path is the sign-in helper.[^1^](https://support.microsoft.com/accounts-billing/manage/you-have-tried-too-many-times-with-an-incorrect-password-error-when-signing-in-to-your-microsoft-acc#summary ""You have tried too many times with an incorrect password" error when signing in to your Microsoft account | Microsoft Support")

If it explicitly says the account is locked

    1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com.
    2. Sign in with the account’s email address.
    3. Complete the displayed identity check or request a security code.
    4. Enter the code and complete any required password change.

Microsoft documents this as the standard unlock procedure for a locked personal Microsoft account.^2^

If this is specifically an Outlook.com/Hotmail mailbox and the page asks you to reset the password, complete that reset; Microsoft identifies password reset as the Outlook.com unblock process.^3^

If there is no identity-check option

If “Let’s prove you’re human” does not appear and the lock screen shows a link beginning with aka.ms/:

    1. Select that link directly from the lock screen.
    2. Submit the account-reinstatement form once.
    3. Monitor the contact email address, including its junk/spam folder, for Microsoft’s response.
    4. Do not submit duplicate requests, because Microsoft says additional submissions can slow the review.^2^

Only Microsoft can remove a server-side account lock. Do not post your password, verification codes, recovery code, or full email address in this public forum.
