Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
If the DHL messages are bouncing back from Microsoft servers, the messages are likely being rejected before they reach the mailbox. In that case, blocked senders, safe senders, folders, and inbox rules in Outlook.com will not fix it.
Use this path:
- Ask DHL support for the exact non-delivery report (NDR) or bounce message.
- Check whether the NDR contains one of these patterns:
-
5.7.511 Access deniedor wording about a banned sender/IP -
550 5.7.606-649 Access denied, banned sending IP - authentication-related rejection such as SPF failure
-
- If the NDR shows
5.7.511or a banned sending IP, the sender needs to use Microsoft’s delist process. Microsoft’s guidance says the sender should follow the instructions in the NDR. For550 5.7.511 Access denied, banned sender[...], the sender can send the full NDR code and IP address to[email protected]. - If the rejection is authentication-related, such as SPF failure, the sender must correct their mail authentication configuration. That is not something that can be fixed in the Outlook.com mailbox.
- On the Outlook.com side, only recheck the mailbox-level items that can affect visible mail:
- Other tab
- Junk Email folder and settings
- forwarding settings
- inbox rules
- sort order
- storage quota
If DHL can share the exact bounce text, that will identify whether this is a sender blocklist issue or a sender authentication issue.
