Where did you purchase the Windows 11 Pro key from, is that directly from Microsoft as a full Pro licence or the half price Home to Pro upgrade licence or from a 3rd party retailer?

If you have your Windows 11 Pro Key:

Download the free ShowKeyPlus app from the Microsoft Store.

On the left of that app, click 'Check Edition', then enter your product key into that app.

Please provide a screenshot of that app window and please hide your product key in the screenshot.

If the device currently has Windows 11 Home installed, a Windows 11 Pro key will not activate until the installed edition is changed to Windows 11 Pro.

    Use this path:

    1. Open Start > Settings > System > Activation.
    2. Select Change product key.
    3. Enter the Windows 11 Pro generic key: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
    4. Complete the edition change to Windows 11 Pro.
    5. After the edition change finishes, return to Start > Settings > System > Activation > Change product key.
    6. Enter the purchased Windows 11 Pro product key.

    Important checks:

    • The installed edition must be Windows 11 Pro, not Home. A Home digital license tied to the motherboard will not activate Pro.
    • After a hardware change, reactivation works only if the edition stays the same before and after the change.
    • If the device has never previously had Windows 11 Pro activated on it, a valid Windows 11 Pro product key is required.
    • If the generic key path still fails, install the matching edition. Microsoft states that when Home is installed but the digital license is for Pro, the Activation troubleshooter offers Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro. If the reverse is true, the matching edition must be installed.
    • If activation still fails after the edition is Pro and the Pro key is entered, use Get help with Windows activation errors or contact customer support.
