What method did you use to delete the user profile and are you now logged into a different user profile on the PC?

    2

    Open File Explorer.

    Go to C:\Users.

In there, do you find the user folder for the user profile you have deleted, or a temporary user profile folder, and if so, are you able to find your missing files in one of those folders?

This can happen if Windows signed in with a temporary profile before the profile was deleted. In that case, desktop changes and files in that temporary profile are lost when signing out, and deleting the real user profile can also remove access to the original files.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Check whether another user folder still exists
      • Open File Explorer.
      • Go to C:\Users.
      • Look for another folder with the old account name or a similar name.
      • Open it and check Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Downloads, Music, and Videos.
      • Do not copy files into a temporary profile if Windows is still using one, because temporary profiles are deleted at sign-out.
    2. Search the whole PC for the missing files
      • In File Explorer, select This PC.
      • Use the Search This PC box in the upper-right and search for known file names.
      • If needed, enable hidden files:
        • Settings > Update & Security > For developers
        • Next to Change settings to show hidden and system files, select Show settings
        • In File Explorer Options, select Show hidden files, folders, or drives
    3. Check OneDrive
      • Sign in to the OneDrive website and use Search everything.
      • Check the Recycle bin there too.
      • If the files were synced, they may still be in OneDrive even if they are missing locally.
    4. Check local recovery options
      • Check the Windows Recycle Bin again.
      • If the files were deleted from a local drive and are not in the Recycle Bin, Windows File Recovery may help recover files from local storage devices.
      • Important: minimize use of the PC until recovery is attempted, because new activity can overwrite deleted file data.
      • Windows File Recovery does not support cloud storage or network shares.
    5. If the files are not found
      • If the missing files were only in a deleted local profile and are not in OneDrive, Search, Recycle Bin, or recoverable from local storage, they may not be retrievable.
