Surface Pro X can be upgraded to Windows 11 if it is eligible and running a currently supported version of Windows 10.
For Surface Pro X, use this path:
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- If available, turn On Get the latest updates as soon as they're available.
- Install any offered Windows 10 updates first, then restart.
- Check Windows Update again for the Windows 11 offer.
If updates are not appearing normally on Surface Pro X:
- Open the Surface app.
- Expand Help & support.
- Check the update status.
- Select Check for updates to open Windows Update and install available updates.
Important points:
- Surface updates are released in stages, so the Windows 11 offer may not appear at the same time on every device.
- If the device has not previously received updates, Surface drivers and firmware can also be updated manually through Download drivers and firmware for Surface.
- After updates are installed, restart the device from Start > Power > Restart.
- Surface Pro X SQ1 and SQ2 are listed as eligible to be offered the Windows 11 2025 Update when data shows the device is ready.
- A Windows 10 device must meet Windows 11 minimum hardware requirements and be on a currently supported version of Windows 10 to upgrade.
If the device is stuck on Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11 is still not offered after checking Windows Update and Surface app status, verify eligibility with the PC Health Check app.
