    Hello Tyson Long,

That top-corner Copilot while writing a new mail is useful when the wording is not coming easily. There is not a setting to pin Copilot onto the new-email tab itself. In current Outlook it lives inside the compose window.

In new Outlook or Outlook on the web:

    1. Home > New mail
    2. On the blank message, use the Copilot icon on the compose toolbar, or Draft with Copilot in the message body if that text is there
    3. Choose Draft, type what you want the email to say, then Generate

You can also use Help me write in the message area, which opens Copilot chat beside the draft.

Two things that often hide it:

    • Plain text: Draft with Copilot does not work in plain text. Settings > Mail > Compose and reply → set format to HTML
    • Work/school account: IT may have Copilot in Outlook turned off

If you are on classic Outlook, Copilot should be on the New Email toolbar. If the Copilot button is missing there after a recent update, Microsoft is tracking that here: Copilot buttons are missing in classic Outlook for Windows

Full steps: Draft an email message with Copilot in Outlook

If the old compact corner control is simply gone and only the newer chat/draft UI is left, that looks like a product change rather than a missing checkbox. If you can say whether this is new Outlook or classic, that would narrow it a bit.

To use Copilot while drafting new emails in Outlook, open a new message and use the Copilot control inside the compose window.

For new Outlook or Outlook on the web:

    1. Select Home > New mail.
    2. In the blank email, select the Copilot icon from the toolbar, or select Draft with Copilot in the message area if it appears.
    3. Select Draft or Draft with Copilot.
    4. Enter the prompt for the email.
    5. Select Generate.
    6. Review the draft, then use options to adjust tone or length, regenerate, or keep the draft.

If Copilot is not showing in Outlook:

    • Check with the IT admin, because access can depend on admin setup.
    • In new Outlook and Outlook on the web, Draft with Copilot does not support emails composed in plain text. To use it, go to Settings > Mail > Compose and reply and select HTML.

If the issue is specifically the old inline prompt such as “Press Alt+I to draft with Copilot”, there is currently no known user-facing setting to turn that prompt on or off independently.
