Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
If the subscription was activated with a prepaid product key, the subscription expires at the end of that term unless recurring billing was turned on. If recurring billing is on, Microsoft can bill the subscription when the prepaid term ends.
To avoid an extra charge:
- Go to the Microsoft account subscriptions page and sign in with the same Microsoft account used to redeem the product key.
- Find the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- If Manage, Cancel, or Change payment appears, the subscription is billed by Microsoft.
- Turn recurring billing off.
- Check the next billing/expiry date to confirm the subscription will simply expire at the end of the prepaid year.
Important details:
- For prepaid subscriptions, the card is not charged until the initial subscription term expires.
- If the page shows Turn on recurring billing, recurring billing is already off and there is no automatic future charge to remove.
- If the subscription was bought through a third party such as Apple, Google, or a retailer, billing must be managed with that provider directly.
If an unexpected charge already appears, review order history for duplicate purchases. If no duplicate appears there, go to Payment options and select Investigate to check whether another Microsoft account is using the same card.
If cancellation or billing controls are missing, verify the correct Microsoft account is being used. If still needed, use Microsoft Support through Contact Microsoft Support.
