This usually happens for one of these reasons after changing phones:

    1. The notification is still going to the old phone. Authenticator can send the approval request to the device where the app was last used.
    2. Notifications are disabled on the new phone.
    3. The app is locked, outdated, or the phone has a network/date-time issue.

    Try this in order:

    1. Check the old phone, if it is still available.
      • Open Microsoft Authenticator on the old device and see whether the approval request appears there.
    2. Make sure notifications are enabled on the new phone.
      • In the phone settings, allow push notifications for Microsoft Authenticator.
      • Make sure the phone is not in Do Not Disturb or Quiet mode.
      • In Authenticator, check Settings > Notification Settings and make sure Show notifications is turned on.
    3. Check basic app and phone conditions.
      • Unlock the Authenticator app before trying again.
      • Update Authenticator to the latest version.
      • Make sure the phone has internet access. If needed, switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data.
      • Make sure Date & time on the phone are correct.
      • If using VPN, disconnect it and test again.
    4. Try signing in again.
      • At the sign-in page, select Other ways to sign in if needed, then choose Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app.
      • For some sign-ins, the app may show a number that must be entered or matched before selecting Approve.
    5. If only one account is affected, remove and add that account again in Authenticator, allowing notifications when prompted.
    6. If the old phone is no longer available, use another verification method if one is offered, such as SMS.
    7. If this is a work or school account and access is blocked because the old phone is still registered, ask the IT admin to reset the MFA registration or require re-registration so Authenticator can be set up again on the new phone.

If the issue continues after these checks, send app logs from Authenticator using Send feedback from the app menu, then contact Support for personal accounts or the IT admin for work/school accounts.
