For KB5129195 download/install failures, the supported self-service path is:
- Confirm the Windows version/build with
winver.- The screenshot shows Windows 11 25H2, build 26200.8875.
- Run the Windows Update troubleshooter.
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update.
- Run it, then retry Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
- Reset the Windows Update cache.
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Stop the update services, rename
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistributionandC:\Windows\System32\catroot2, then start the services again. - Restart the PC and try Windows Update again.
- If the update still fails, use the Windows 11 recovery repair option.
- Go to Settings > System > Recovery.
- In Fix problems using Windows Update, select Reinstall now.
- This reinstalls Windows update components without affecting files, settings, or installed apps.
- If it still fails after that, collect these details before further troubleshooting:
- Exact Windows Update error code
- Whether the device is managed by WSUS, Intune, or another update-management solution
