To make files available across devices, the files on the computer must finish syncing to OneDrive first. If some files are only on the computer and not in OneDrive online, they will not appear on other devices.
Try this on the computer with the issue:
- Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar.
- Check whether OneDrive shows Up to date.
- If sync is paused, resume it and wait for syncing to complete.
- Check that the internet connection is stable while syncing.
- Sign in to OneDrive on the web and confirm the files appear there.
If a specific file shows "This file can't be synced", use the matching fix:
- Close the file if it is open in another app.
- In File Explorer, right-click the file > Properties > Security, then make sure the account has Read and Write allowed.
- Restart sync for that file:
- Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon and select Close OneDrive.
- Move the problem file out of the OneDrive folder to a location outside OneDrive.
- Start OneDrive again from Start.
- Wait until OneDrive shows Up to date.
- Copy the file back into the OneDrive folder.
Also check these common causes:
- If Microsoft storage is full, new files cannot upload or sync.
- If OneDrive is not running, the taskbar icon may be missing.
- If sync still fails, try unlinking and relinking the OneDrive account, or run the guided troubleshooter.
If the files still do not appear on other devices after OneDrive shows Up to date, use Contact Microsoft Support for personal accounts, or contact the organization's IT helpdesk for work or school accounts.
