Changing contact number on account

I am looking at trying to change my phone number on my account to a different one as I a unable to use the original one that I used to set up the account. Every time I ask for a verification code on my authenticator app, It wants to send it to the original number. Please can you advise me on how to update this. I am not confident in technology so It needs to be made as simple as possible

So that I am understanding your question. Please can you confirm if you are wanting to add a new phone number to your Microsoft account as a verification method (SMS verification) or are you wanting to transfer the data from the Microsoft Authenticator from your old phone to your new phone?

Hi,

The problem that I have had is that the number/phone that the authenticator app was downloaded onto, I can no longer access as the phone is broken and I can not turn on. The number can be used but I need to have an unlocked phone to do this so I am using another phone with a different number. So I need to have the verification code come to the new phone and number
