A stolen Surface can still be remotely locked from the Microsoft account devices page even if it cannot currently be located. The lock action is done from the same device page used for Find My Device.
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices and sign in.
- Select the Find My Device tab.
- Choose the stolen Surface.
- If the device appears on the map, select Lock > Next.
Important conditions:
- Find my device must have been turned on before the theft.
- The account on the Surface must have been an Administrator account.
- A device that is off or has a dead battery cannot report its current location until it powers on again.
For added security, reset the Microsoft account password after locking the device.
If sign-in to the Microsoft account is blocked, use the Sign-in helper. If more help is needed, use Contact Microsoft Support. Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
