Purchased MS Project on Group but gets MS Office with Publisher and not Project

The product key cannot be handled here. Remove it from any public post immediately.

If a Groupon purchase installed Publisher instead of Project, the most likely issue is that the purchase or installer is tied to the wrong product or to a non-consumer license. Microsoft’s guidance for third-party seller product key problems is to work with the seller. For volume license versions, installation is handled differently and requires the organization’s IT department.

What to do next:

1. Verify what is actually installed.
   • Open an Office app.
   • Go to File > Account.
   • Check Product Information / Belongs to.
   • This shows which product is activated and which Microsoft account it is associated with.
2. Check whether Project appears in the Microsoft account used for redemption.
   • Sign in to the Microsoft account, Services & subscriptions page.
   • If the Project purchase was redeemed correctly, it should appear there for reinstall/activation.
3. If this was a first-time retail Project purchase, redeem the key with the correct Microsoft account.
   • For Project Standard or Project Professional, first-time redemption is done at https://microsoft365.com/setup.
   • Redeeming the key links the account with the Project app.
4. If the purchase was through the Microsoft Workplace Discount Program, use the Workplace Discount Program flow instead.
   • For Project Professional bought through that program, use the order history page and follow the Workplace Discount Program install steps.
5. If the key came from a third-party seller such as Groupon and Project still does not appear, contact the seller for correction or refund.
   • Microsoft support content specifically calls out third-party seller product key problems.
   • A Microsoft Q&A answer also notes that if a purchase redirects to Microsoft 365 or the wrong installer, the seller should verify the legitimacy of the key and provide the correct installation source.
6. If the product turns out to be a volume license edition, contact the seller or the organization’s IT department.
   • Volume license editions are not installed through the normal consumer setup flow.

Also, the full product key cannot be viewed inside Office or online after purchase, except for certain Workplace Discount Program cases.
