I have a surface go 3, with windows 11 with all the latest updates.

Lately the touch screen is behaving oddly. I tried troubleshooting, but had to stop when i could not find the "Intel(R) Precise Touch Device" that they ask about in the manual.

The only Intel I can see in the list is Intel(R) HID Event Filter. Any ideas what I can do? Should I just try and find/download "Intel(R) Precise Touch Device"?

I would not download an “Intel(R) Precise Touch Device” driver from the Internet. In your case, the fact that you see Intel(R) HID Event Filter but not Intel(R) Precise Touch Device is important.

Microsoft's current Surface touchscreen troubleshooting page does specifically mention Intel(R) Precise Touch Device, but drivers can vary by Surface model/configuration and Windows build.

How to fix touch issues on your Surface touchscreen

The most useful test: Surface UEFI

This will tell us whether we're dealing with hardware or Windows/driver software.

    Shut down the Surface completely.

    Press and hold Volume Up.

While holding Volume Up, press the Power button.

Keep holding Volume Up until the Surface/UEFI screen appears.

Try using the touchscreen inside UEFI.

    Microsoft specifically recommends this test:

Touch works normally in UEFI → likely Windows/driver/software problem.

Touch is also faulty in UEFI → much more likely a touchscreen/digitizer hardware problem.

No. Do not try to separately download Intel(R) Precise Touch Device) just because it is missing from Device Manager.

For Surface devices, the documented next steps are:

    1. Check for Windows and Surface updates
      • Open the Surface app.
      • Expand Help & support to check update status.
      • If updates are available, select Check for updates to open Windows Update and install them.
      • In Windows 11, also go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options.
      • Turn Receive updates for other Microsoft products On.
      • Go to Optional updates, install all optional updates, then Check for updates and install everything available.
      • Restart the device after updates finish.
    2. Reinstall the touchscreen driver entries that are present
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Expand Human Interface Devices.
      • If HID-compliant touch screen is listed, right-click it and select Uninstall device.
      • If there are two HID-compliant touch screen entries, uninstall both.
      • From the Action menu, select Scan for hardware changes.
      • Restart the Surface if needed. When connected to the internet, Windows should automatically download and install the touchscreen driver.
    3. Manually install the Surface Go 3 driver/firmware package
      • Microsoft provides Surface drivers and firmware as a downloadable .msi package for each Surface model.
      • For Surface Go 3, use the official Microsoft Download Center package for that model, choose the .msi that matches the Surface model and Windows version, then run it and complete setup.
      • This is the supported way to manually refresh Surface drivers when troubleshooting installation issues.
    4. Test touch after each step
      • Try opening an app such as Microsoft Edge and test scrolling, pinch to zoom, swipe, and long-press.

    Important warning:

    • The uninstall warning in the Surface touchscreen article applies to Surface Pro X, not Surface Go 3.

If the issue continues after updates and reinstalling the available touchscreen entries, use the Surface app > Get Help for technical support.
