Try these checks and fixes for Outlook.com when email text or messages are not loading:
- Check if Outlook.com is working and storage is not full
- If Microsoft cloud storage is full, sending and receiving email stops and new messages are bounced and unrecoverable.
- Check mailbox storage using the storage page linked from Outlook.com guidance and free up space if needed (delete large emails, empty Deleted Items and Junk Email).
- Verify account access and sign-in
- If email is not loading because the account is blocked or sign-in is failing in the background, follow the steps to:
- Unblock the Outlook.com account if there was unusual sign-in activity.
- Use the Microsoft account sign-in helper if there are sign-in issues.
- Check if only some devices are affected
- If email text is missing or not syncing only on one device (for example, a phone or a specific app), remove that device’s partnership with the mailbox and let it resync. This often fixes sync and loading issues.
- Disable ad blockers or problematic browser add-ons
- Some browsers have problems loading Outlook.com emails when ad or pop-up blockers are enabled (for example, AdBlock or uBlock). Symptoms include emails timing out, running slowly, or not loading content.
- Workarounds:
- Use Microsoft Edge or another browser to test.
- Exclude Outlook.com from the ad blocker (for example, in Chrome select AdBlock > “Don’t run on pages on this domain,” then refresh Outlook.com).
- Remove or disable problematic ad-blocker extensions in the browser.
- In Firefox specifically, certain add-ons can prevent the Inbox from loading at all. Disable or remove add-ons using Firefox’s add-on management, then reload Outlook.com.
- Try a different browser or private/incognito window
- Open Outlook.com in another browser or in a private/incognito window to rule out cached data or cookies causing the page not to render the email body correctly.
If the problem continues after these steps, use Outlook.com’s in-product Help to contact support (Help > Still need help?) while signed in.
