This is a long-standing problem is related to the WebView2 component — specifically, the x64 version gets installed instead of the ARM64 version after Windows updates, breaking apps that depend on it.

Download and install Microsoft Edge WebView2 and run it as Administrator.

    Restart the device

Test if Outlook and Teams open

Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), find Windows Explorer, right-click → Restart.

    Run the built-in troubleshooter:

Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters, then select Search and Indexing and run it.

Try the following steps in order, testing after each major step.

    1. Fully shut down the Surface (not just restart)
On some devices a full shutdown clears issues that a restart does not. Power off completely, wait 30 seconds, then power it back on and test the taskbar search, Outlook, and Teams.
    2. Check Windows Search service (for the taskbar/search issues and Outlook search)
      1. Close Outlook if it opens at all.
      2. Press Windows logo key + R, type services.msc, select OK.
      3. In Services, find Windows Search, right‑click and select Properties.
      4. Ensure Service status is Running; if not, select Start.
      5. Ensure Startup type is Automatic or Automatic (Delayed Start) (not Disabled).
      6. Select OK, then test search and Outlook again.
    3. Repair Microsoft 365/Office (for Outlook not opening) The repair tool fixes many Outlook startup issues. On Windows 11 / Windows 10:
      1. Right‑click the Start button.
      2. Select Installed apps (Windows 11) or Apps and Features (Windows 10).
      3. Find the Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 product, select it, then choose Modify (or the three dots … then Modify).
      4. In How would you like to repair your Office Programs, choose Online Repair > Repair to fully fix the installation (Quick Repair is faster but less thorough).
      5. Follow the prompts and, when complete, reboot and try Outlook and Teams again.
On older Control Panel view (if applicable):
      1. Open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program.
      2. Select the Office product > Change.
      3. For Click‑to‑Run installs, choose Online Repair > Repair.
      4. For MSI‑based installs, choose Repair > Continue and follow the prompts.
    4. If Outlook still will not open If repair does not help and Outlook still fails to launch, fully remove and reinstall Office:
      1. Uninstall Office from Apps & Features / Installed apps or Programs and Features.
      2. Manually delete any remaining Office folders under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\ and C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\ if they remain after uninstall.
      3. Restart the Surface.
      4. Reinstall Office from the Microsoft 365 subscription or account portal, then test Outlook.
    5. If new Outlook specifically fails to launch When classic Outlook works but the new Outlook for Windows does not, clear its local data:
      1. Close all Microsoft apps (Outlook, Teams, etc.).
      2. Press Windows + R, type appdata, press Enter.
      3. Go to Local > Microsoft.
      4. Delete the Olk and OneAuth folders.
      5. Restart the Surface and try opening the new Outlook again.
    6. If none of the above resolves it Because this is a new Surface and multiple core components (search, Outlook, Teams) are affected, there may be a deeper Windows or Office installation issue. In that case, contact Microsoft Support for guided cleanup (including use of the Office uninstall tool and manual removal of residual Office components) and then reinstall Office.
