So, my brother gifted me a surface pro laptop and it has not battery percentage on the task bar. So, it will randomly die without me ever knowing what percentage it was at. How do I fix it, I've gone to settings and there is no option to add a battery icon to my task bar.

    Hello Kenyan Vidal!

Thanks for posting your question to the Q&A forum.

To restore the missing battery percentage or battery icon on your Surface Pro laptop, try these steps:

    1. Enable battery percentage

Go to Settings > System > Power & battery, then scroll down and turn on Battery percentage.

    2. Restore the battery icon in the system tray

If the icon or toggle is missing, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar, scroll to System tray icons / Other system tray icons, and switch Power to On.

    3. Restart Windows Explorer

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), find Windows Explorer under Processes, right‑click it, and select Restart.

If anything looks different on your device, feel free to share it and I can help check further!

To add the battery percentage to the taskbar on your Surface Pro, follow these steps:

    1. Right-click on the taskbar: Click on an empty area of the taskbar to bring up the context menu.
    2. Select Taskbar settings: From the context menu, choose "Taskbar settings."
    3. Navigate to Notification Area: Scroll down and look for the section labeled "Notification area."
    4. Select "Turn system icons on or off": This option allows you to manage which icons are displayed in the taskbar.
    5. Enable the Power icon: Make sure that the Power icon is turned on. This will allow the battery icon to show up in the taskbar.
    6. Check the battery icon: Once enabled, you should see the battery icon in the taskbar. Click on it to view the battery percentage.

If the battery percentage is not visible, you can also check the settings in the Battery Saver settings page (Settings -> System -> Battery Saver) to see if there are any additional options available for displaying battery information.

If you still cannot see the battery percentage, it may be due to a system setting or a limitation of your device configuration. Ensure that your Windows is updated to the latest version as well.
