Microsoft Booking - Calendar starts on Sunday instead of Monday

Hello,

we are using Microsoft Bookings and have noticed that the booking page (frontend) calendar always starts the week on Sunday.

Our tenant, booking page language, and regional settings are configured for Europe (Czech republic), where the standard first day of the week is Monday. Despite this, the calendar on the public booking page still displays Sunday as the first day.

Could you please clarify:

  1. Why Microsoft Bookings displays the calendar starting on Sunday even when the tenant and booking page are set to European locale?
  2. Which settings (tenant, booking page, user, or browser) actually control the “first day of week” behavior in Bookings (in OWA - calendar - first day of week is Monday) ?

Is there any supported way (UI setting, PowerShell, or Graph API) to change the first day of the week to Monday?

If this is a known limitation or product behavior, is there a roadmap or planned update to allow configuring the first day of the week?

This behavior is confusing for users in our region and does not align with local calendar conventions.

Thank you for your clarification.

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your question. Hey, thanks for asking about the Microsoft Bookings calendar starting on Sunday. I get that it's confusing when your account and booking page are set to a European place where Monday is the normal first day of the week, but the booking page starts with Sunday. Sorry for the trouble this causes.

What you're seeing happens because Bookings gets some display settings from Outlook on the web and the booking page's regional settings. But it doesn't always change the first day of week for the public page based on where your account is located. Bookings uses your Outlook calendar settings for its internal calendar, but the booking page for customers uses its own Change language and time zone settings. This controls the language and time zone, but it doesn't have a first day of week option. So, even if you have a European place set, the public page might still show Sunday first.

Here's what you can do to fix it: First, check the staff admin's Outlook on the web calendar settings and set the work week to start on Monday. Bookings uses these Outlook settings for the signed-in user and shows them in the Bookings calendar. Then, go to Bookings and change the booking page's regional settings using Change language and time zone settings to make sure the language and time zone match your place. This controls how the public page shows the language and time zone. Doing these things will help, but the public page doesn't have a way to force Monday as the first day. That's why you might still see Sunday first.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

    Hello @HanakJ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum!

After receiving your message, I researched this behavior further and also tested it in my own environment. Even when I change the region and time‑zone settings inside the Booking Page, the public booking page continues to display Sunday as the first day of the week.

User's imageI also tried modifying the “First day of the week” setting in Outlook on the web to Monday.

User's imageUser's image This setting is correctly reflected inside the internal Bookings calendar, but the public facing booking page still starts with Sunday regardless of the Outlook configuration.

During my research, I checked Microsoft’s official documentation here: Customize and publish your booking page | Microsoft Learn. The screenshot included in that article also shows the calendar beginning with Sunday, which strongly suggests that this may be the expected behavior of the current product design.

At this moment, there is no published Microsoft roadmap indicating that this will be changed in the future. I also reviewed this Microsoft Q&A discussion; other users have reported the same behavior: Start work week in Microsoft Bookings - Microsoft Q&A

And as far as I can see, this does have some impact on the workflow of organizations in Europe, where Monday is the standard first day of the week. Because of that, I highly recommend submitting feedback through the Microsoft Feedback Portal.
