Login with Fingerprint is no longer working after the latest Windows 11, 25H2 update. It recognizes my fingerprint but immediately says "your pin is required to sign in".

I have removed my fingerprint and PIN, restarted the computer, re-added the PIN and fingerprint, but continue to experience the same issue.

The issue started after the most recent round of updates. KB5066835, KB5066128, and KB5068331 were installed today.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

    Hi,

To start, please open Device Manager → Biometric Devices, right-click your fingerprint sensor, and select Uninstall device (check “Delete the driver software for this device” if available). Then restart your system and let Windows automatically reinstall the driver. If Windows doesn’t reinstall it automatically, visit your device manufacturer’s support site (for example, Dell, HP, Lenovo) and manually install the latest fingerprint driver certified for Windows 11, version 25H2.

Next, try running the Windows Hello troubleshooter:

    • Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Windows Hello sign-in,
    • Then follow the on-screen recommendations.

You can also clear stored biometric data by opening an elevated Command Prompt and running:

    certutil -deleteHelloContainer

After that, re-register your fingerprint and test sign-in again.

I hope these steps help restore your fingerprint login functionality! If this solution resolves your issue or helps point you in the right direction, please click “Accept Answer” so others in the community can benefit from it as well 😊

    Best regards,

    VP

UPDATE: I had previously reinstalled Windows 25H2 with the latest updates but continued to see the issue. Every time I would scan my fingerprint, I would be prompted for my PIN. Last week, the November updates installed and the fingerprint login is now working as it should.
